Lord, thank You for the Gospel of the kingdom. May we who are called to preach never hesitate to proclaim the whole will of God; for in so doing, we will be innocent of the blood of all men. Help us to keep watch over all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made us overseers. Let us be good under-shepherds of the church of God, which You bought with your own blood. Give us courage and strength to protect the flock from the savage wolves who will come in among us, even from those who will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after themselves. Cause us to always be on our guard; and may we never stop warning the flock night and day with our tears. Let us not covet anyone’s silver or gold or clothing, but with our own hands supply our own needs and the needs of our companions. In everything we do, let us show by this kind of hard work that we must help the weak, remembering the words our Lord Jesus himself who said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
